Per the CMS, there are now 3 new modifiers for home oxygen use under the national coverage determination (NCD) 240.2.
Patients under NCD Section B, Group II and Section D have payment and recertification requirements that don’t apply to Group I. The new modifiers are effective January 1, 2023, and will be available in the April 2023 HCPCS code release. Sound complicated? Don’t worry, Infinite Revenue Medical Billing LLC has your back! We monitor all medical coding and billing regulations so you don’t have to. Some billers incorrectly believe that modifiers in medical coding are unnecessary. but they are an important part of avoiding abuse, non-compliance, and fraud. Most modifiers in medical coding are designed to represent the item or service given. Inappropriate code/modifier combinations will result in possible claim denials; as they are unable to be processed and will require the claim to be resubmitted. Resubmissions not only cost you and your staff valuable time, but are also often lost in the shuffle of new claim processing. In either situation, you lose out on revenue. Infinite Revenue Medical Billing LLC takes that worry off your shoulders so you can focus on practicing medicine! Avoid this extra work by outsourcing the coding and billing needs of your medical practice. IRMB experts take the responsibility of these tasks off of your shoulders so that your clinic can focus on practicing medicine.
